At Smiles Better we understand that Dental Phobia is a serious and often paralysing fear of seeing the dentist. We understand that this Dental Phobia is often the result of a bad experience such as a visit to the school dentist as a child. We understand the fear can stay with you for a lifetime. At Smiles Better we are with you every step of the way in helping you to manage your dental fears.
We will deliver the following in Nervous Patient Care:-
-
Explanation and clarification an any and all procedures to alleviate the fear of the unknown, enabling you to have some input into treatment decisions and choices
-
Ensuring there is time available to answer all of your questions and to determine how much treatment you can tolerate in one visit
-
Help you build confidence in yourself and trust in the Smiles Better dental team.
-
A Signalling System will be established with you allowing you to stop us at anytime whether it is because you need more anaesthesia, want a rinse or need a break. The most common signal is raising the hand.
-
Listen and treat all of your dental concerns, putting your interests first and acting to protect them.
-
Respect your dignity and choices
-
Use Relaxation and Distraction techniques such as the use of Aconite and the wearing of a MP3 player during treatment.
-
Provide no- needle injections if possible
-
When necessary an oral sedative such as Temazepan can be prescribed to reduce anxiety.
-
Offer intravenous sedation in extreme cases. This is not a general anaesthetic. Sedation removes any anxiety and memory of the experience but is very safe.
